That also means it’s moving quite a load. What’s the infrastructure like in your area? How rural are you? What’s the hydrant coverage like? Do the math before you invest in your next previously owned fire truck, quints included. Don’t forget to consider access to water in your area. Factor in which trucks will be first on the scene, and what each will be doing at the time. Think through the gallons per minute you’ll need to pump with the previously owned quint you choose. How much water can a given quint pump?Ĭapacity, capacity, capacity. What else is in your fleet and, even more importantly, how long of a life do those vehicles have left? If the flexibility of the quint dovetails well, and empowers your fire department with the right tools for the foreseeable future, it could be one of the wisest decisions you’ll make. But which vehicles in your fleet bring the “master of one element” to the scene? Anytime you invest in a previously owned fire truck, it’s important to take a look at the big picture. ![]() What else is in your fleet – and will that change any time soon?Ī quint may very well be the jack of all fire truck trades. If what you really need is more access to storage for other equipment, a quint might not be the best next step. Figuring out how often your quint will be first on the scene, operating without the tools the ladder truck offers, can help you figure out of it’s the right way to build out your fleet. You can use the pump and tank right away while putting the ladder up. How often will the quint operate at a fire by itself?Ī lot of fire departments like the immediate action a quint can bring. If you’re trying to pick the right previously owned fire truck – and considering a quint – for your fire department, ask yourself these eight questions to help make the best choice: 1. Quints can be a great piece of that collective puzzle. You want to ensure the fire trucks you own are complementary, and above all: specifically tailored to your local needs. ![]() A good fleet is about more than just the sum of its parts. But making sure you’re adding the right used fire truck to your fleet, at the right time, and for the right reason, is important. As a jack of all trades, quints bring a lot of different capabilities to your fire department. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This year, out of the top 100 or so names for boys and names for girls, these monikers wound up ranking on both lists. The SSA recently released a rank of the top 1,000 most popular baby names used in the United States last year, separated by sex. But they're all beautiful, and unlikely to leave with you with baby-name regret. ![]() Some are common for everyone others are traditionally associated with one gender but are increasingly flipping to the other one. If you're one of the parents interested in unisex baby names, these are trending gender-neutral names for 2023. But parents, it seems, are less and less likely to adhere to conventions about which names belong to which column. And from its data, we can see that there are some names that still seem most heavily associated with one gender. And more and more parents are opting for names that could fit for any gender: According to a study cited in The Atlantic, "In 2021, 6% of American babies were bestowed androgynous names, approximately five times the number in the 1880s." And that's only getting faster: According to research done by baby-naming site Nameberry and the New York Times, which looked back at 100 years of baby names, there was an 88% increase in the use of unisex names between 19.įor now, though, the Social Security Administration (SSA), which keeps data about the most popular baby names, still separates the name list by boys and girls. Any name could be either a boy name or a girl name, so it's kind of silly to separate them. One day, the need for gender-neutral name lists will be obsolete. ![]() 1/3/2024 0 Comments Best songs to sing along to![]() Bear that in mind when making your own selections. People usually know the chorus of a song if they don’t know the rest. The part of a pop song that usually gets drunk friends wailing in delight is the chorus. Pop music is also short for ‘popular music’, which makes it perfect singalongs when you’re drunk. Pop performers have just 3 minutes or less to tell a story and get across the emotion at the time as well. I think pop is much harder to create than rock. Some see it as frivolous and empty, and compared to rock it isn’t seen as deep. Margaritaville is a song about the relaxed and laid-back lifestyle that comes with living in a tropical climate. Like the previous track, there’s something melancholy in the song that makes it great to sing. Released in 1965, their version soon became the jukebox version we know and love. This song has a storied history, in that there are more than 1,500 recordings of ‘Unchained Melody’ made by more than 670 artists! But it was the version by the Righteous Brothers that has become the version we know today. The singers in bands like Oasis and Queen are forced to sing loud and high or risk losing themselves amongst the guitars and drums. If you want to make drunk friends cry, or lift them out of a sour mood, a rock song is the perfect vehicle. This means the songs picked should be well-known hits. Lastly, the best sing along songs when drunk are also ones where anyone can join in at any time. That’s not to say singing drunkenly to hip hop is out of the question, I’ve just never heard anyone do it. And secondly, the less words in the song, the more likely it’s going to be sung. So, grab your microphone, warm up your voice, and let these songs inspire your next practice session 1. And even if you don’t sing the correct lyrics, you’d still be rewarded with the song’s amazing melody. There’s never a doubt that this is the country great’s signature song. But after years of listening to friends belting out the hits after a few drinks, I’ve noticed 3 things about the songs that get chosen.įirstly, the best songs tend to lift people up, be that in the lyrics, the mood of the song, or the vocals. Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver Ah, almost heaven That’s exactly how you’d feel whenever you sing this 1971 song from the country song master, John Denver. Your musical tastes won’t be the same as mine. But what do you sing? What are the best sing along songs when drunk?Īny Best of list is of course going to be subjective.
